The purpose of the Center's nursery is child abuse prevention. If a parent is stressed and feel they are getting to the end of their rope, our crisis nursery staff can watch children for a few hours to give parents a break. The crisis nursery can also take children for other crisis or emergency situations. In more serious cases, the nursery staff can keep children up to 72 hours, if necessary. The nursery takes children ages 0 to 11. The crisis nursery is not a daycare and does not take children while parents go to work or attend school. Unfortunately, the nursery cannot take children with severe physical, medical, or mental disabilities.
Crisis and respite nursery services are free. We serve residents of Davis and Morgan counties. Nursery services are available to anyone living within these counties. In addition to our nursery, there are 11 Family Support Centers throughout Utah that also offer crisis and respite nursery services.
Respite Care
In addition to crisis services, the nursery offers parents time-out breaks. These breaks are known as respite nursery care and are provided during regular business hours from 8:30 am to 7 pm, Monday through Friday, in Clearfield and from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, in Bountiful. Time-out breaks are limited to two to three hours once per week. If more time is needed, the Nursery Coordinator will need to approve it. Parents can use this time for whatever they choose. It is often helpful for parents to have a little time to themselves they can look forward to each week.
There are two locations in Davis County: Clearfield and Bountiful. For time-out breaks and appointments, you must call in advance to schedule a time. Nursery slots fill up quickly, so the sooner you make an appointment the better. In crisis situations, the nursery asks that you call ahead, if possible. After regular business hours and on weekends, there is an on-call worker available for emergencies. They can be at the Center within 30 minutes from the time of the call.
